Haddington became the Mother Club for Dunbar in 1964. The records show that
Haddington President John McVie proposed the toast to The Rotary Club of Dunbar at both its Inaugural and Charter Dinners. Dunbar Rotary Club was awarded its charter on 26th March 1964.
The Rotary Club of North Berwick was initiated in the summer of 1966 under the direction of Haddington President George Burcher and Norman Butterworth of the Edinburgh Rotary Club. North Berwick was awarded its charter on 6th February 1967.
During the early years of The Royal Burgh of Haddington’s twinning with Aubigny sur Nere in France, members of Haddington Rotary Club urged their new friends to form a Rotary Club. Subsequently, the Rotary Club of Aubigny-Argent was chartered in 1972.
At the instigation of our Club, Haddington and District Probus Club was created in 1982.
In recent years we have had two Lady Presidents, Fiona Sheldon and Frances Kilby. Fiona has continued a family tradition, being the daughter of one of our Founder Members, John McVie.
Our longest serving member, John Shedden, joined Rotary in 1963 and was President in 1970/71. John passed away in 2014.
