Over the years, Haddington Rotary Club has continued to support individuals and organisations locally, nationally and internationally.
In the local community the Club continues to support a wide spectrum of activities. A highlight of our year is our participation in a KidsOut day organised the Rotary Club of Edinburgh for children with special needs. We support local organisations e.g. Haddington Day Centre, Blooming Haddington, St Mary’s Pleasance and St Mary’s Church throughout the year.
Currently, we also provide assistance locally at events such as the East Fortune Airshow and the Haddington Agricultural Show.
Financial assistance is provided to many individuals who travel abroad for humanitarian work and every year the club is involved in fundraising for many national charities.
The Club participates in a large range of youth activities including competitions for Young Golfer, Young Musician, Young Photographer, Challenge Enterprise, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and has a Young Person of the Year Award.
Fundraising for international emergencies has continued throughout the Club’s history. Notable efforts in recent years have been large contributions for the purchase of Shelterboxes and Waterboxes for victims of the Asian Tsunami, the Haiti Earthquake, the Pakistan Flood Disaster and the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.
The Club continues to participate in Rotary International’s goal to eradicate polio which remains endemic in some of Africa, India and Pakistan.
With the basis of Rotary being friendship, the Club has a wide range of social activities and enjoys collaboration with other clubs.
The Rotary Club of Haddington has a long and creditable history and, in common with Rotarians worldwide, looks forward to many more years of “Service above Self”.
